One of the most moving experiences the Kenya Travel Team had last summer was our visit to Dorothy Karimi and her mother, Janet Miriti. As many of you know, we had been able to transport a wheelchair for Dorothy (www.freewheelchairmission.org). Presenting the chair to Dorothy was a humbling experience. It was a blessing to be able to see her smile and witness the joy of her mother who had carried her for many years, as Dorothy tried out her new wheels.
It was a thrill to be able to share "the wheelchair story" with others when our team came home !! Everyone loves a touching story of reaching out and sharing a bit of hope and joy with others. We love to wrap these stories of success in neat packages and present them as if they are the happy endings that please us. But the real world throws us curve balls.
On April 29, 2011, Dorothy's dear mother passed away after some months of suffering with liver cancer. The happy ending is the joy we feel because we know Janet is now free from her pain and in the arms of her Lord. The sadness we feel is because we know that Dorothy and the rest of her family will feel the loss of this dear woman immensely. Praise God for the hope he offers us all.
